Escape Velocity Weekly. Last updated: October 30, 2026
Escape Velocity Weekly is a free, personal newsletter about aging and longevity research. This page explains what information the newsletter collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I collect only what's needed to send you the newsletter, I never sell or share your information for marketing, and you can leave at any time.
What I collect
- Your email address, and your name if you choose to give it, when you subscribe.
- Subscription details: when you signed up, which newsletters you receive, and whether your subscription is active.
- Email engagement: whether a newsletter was delivered, opened, or had a link clicked. This helps me see which topics are useful. Opens are measured with a standard tracking pixel, which your email app may block.
- Messages you send me, such as replies to the newsletter.
I don't collect payment details (the newsletter is free), and I don't knowingly collect information from children under 16.
How it's used
Only to send you the newsletter and the emails you ask for (such as a sign-in link or a sign-up confirmation), to reply to you, and to understand, in aggregate, what readers find useful. I don't sell, rent, or trade your information, and I don't use it for advertising.
Who helps run the newsletter
- Ghost, the open-source publishing software, which I run on my own server (hosted by Oracle Cloud). Your subscriber record is stored there.
- Mailgun, which delivers the newsletter emails.
- Cloudflare, which provides the site's domain name service and forwards email sent to the newsletter's addresses.
- Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces used on the website. Your browser requests the fonts from Google, which receives your IP address.
These providers process data only to provide their service and are bound by their own privacy terms. Some are based in the United States, so your information may be processed there.
Cookies
The website uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in as a subscriber and to keep the site secure. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
How long it's kept
Your information is kept while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I keep only your email address and the fact that you unsubscribed, so I don't email you by mistake. If you ask me to delete your information, I'll remove it within 30 days. Backups are kept for up to 14 days and then deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
- See, correct, or delete your information: manage your subscription from the account link on the site, or email me.
- Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including access, portability, and objection. Email me and I'll help.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, I'll update the date at the top and mention it in the next issue.
